Immigration & Nationality Act of 1965
Emmanuel Cellar first proposed the Act in 1965 with the help of Senators Hart and Kennedy. The Act was signed into effect on October 3, 1965. This was a law presented to the United States that abolished the Quota Act of 1921 and allowed free immigration. "No person shall receive any preference or priority or be discriminated against in the issuance of any immigrant visa because of his race, sex, nationality , place of birth, or place of residence," This law was a big step forward in immigration rights and allowed all immigrants a fair shot of entering the US without their being a certain percent allowed.
